A special thanks to the Menninger Clinic ("a world leader in psychiatric treatment, research and education”) for referencing a blog entry I posted about LA Laker' Ron Artest. After winning game 7 of the NBA finals, Artest thanked a number of people, including his psychiatrist. You can watch the post-game interview and read about the reactions in my entry: http://allworldperformance.wordpress.com/2010/06/18/lakers-ron-artest-his-psychiatrist-reaction-an-insiders-perspective

| Support a small, legitimate Haitian organization! |
| Updated: Wednesday Feb 3, 2010 @ 10:01 PM |

Research suggests we get the most emotional reward when giving to a charity or cause that shows us who and how we've helped, over, for example, donating to a larger organization we have no personal tie to: http://bit.ly/7f4oeE ...the problem can be finding a smaller, personalized organization that is both legitimate and effective.
May I suggest Moun Pou Moun Haiti, which has been listed on the AllWorld Philanthropy page since last summer? I know the husband and wife team who began their work in Haiti 5 years ago - in fact, they just returned to St. Louis, MO, USA, from providing medical (husband is a medical doctor) and other emergency assistance since the quake. Moun Pou Moun Haiti is personal, legit, and effective, and they would love to hear from you. Moun Pou Moun Haiti puts children through school, buys land and builds homes, and lends micro business loans for sustainability. Checkout their website, Facebook page, and blog for more information! |

| A special thank you to Khadevis Robinson (KD), 8x US National Champion & 2004 Olympic Track Team member, for taking the time to engage my sport psychology class via a webconference last Wednesday. The Master's in Sports Science & Rehabilitation students were able to ask him questions about physical and mental preperations, injury, support staff, and more. We are especially thankful that KD made himself available just 2 weeks before his first 800m heat at the World Championships in Berlin. Checkout his inspiring media interviews at www.khadevis.com! |

| Joe is grateful to have his professional practice and ethics workshop accepted for presentation at the 2009 Annual Conference of the Association for Applied Sport Psychology in Salt Lake City, UT, USA. He will be facilitating a workshop entitled, 'I was an athlete, too': Sport psychologist self-disclosure in the service of the therapeutic relationship. The discussion will focus on when it may be appropriate and ethically sound for a sport psychology professional to discuss her or his athletic career (or life in general) with a client. Important considerations will include AASP and APA Ethical Guidelines and the question, "Whose needs are being served, the sport psychology professional's or the client's?" |

Joe is extremely happy to be teaching "Psychology of the Athlete" to graduate students in the Sports Science & Rehabilitation Master's program at Logan College this summer. The class is an overview of sport psychology theory and practice. To better serve the professional goals of the students, they will also examine the students' unique role in the lives of injured athletes and how these principles may help enhance their ability to expedite healing, both physical and emotional. |
